Help Wanted: NHSC Tips and Tools for Successful Clinician Recruitment

Tip 27:
Time to Land a Candidate

A physician finishing an internship or residency will usually be ready to begin work during July. Clinicians from other health professions, however, can finish their programs and graduate throughout the year. It can take 9 months to a year to complete the entire process of hiring the right person, so plan ahead:

+ Schedule enough time to work around the candidate’s personal commitments

+ Accommodate parents’ preference to move during summer when school is out

+ When setting a start date, consider the time it takes to complete the interview process
