Tip 24:
Go Ahead, Pick Up the Tab
Once you’ve put out the welcome mat, it’s always a nice gesture to help foot the bill for the in-person interview—or at least pay for lunch. When it comes to expenses, you have a few options:
+ Pay all expenses for travel, lodging, and meals
+ Share the costs equally with the candidate
+ Specify an amount limit or a percentage of total expenses that you’ll cover

Chart Note
+
It’s best to pay for the interviewee’s visit, but asking a candidate to share costs is a good way to judge his or her interest.

Sometimes the NHSC can help with the bill by providing funds for graduating Scholars who are interviewing. This is something you can mention if you are interviewing an NHSC Scholar. To find out more, visit http://nhsc.bhpr.hrsa.gov/applications/ psab_phys/cover.cfm and refer to the "Travel" section.
