Help Wanted: NHSC Tips and Tools for Successful Clinician Recruitment

Tip 18:
It All Starts With a Phone Call

A phone interview is usually the first serious contact with a prospective clinician. Although interviews are intended to help you get a sense of your applicants, they’re also a chance for the applicants to check you out. Make the right impression:

+ Familiarize yourself with the prospect’s résumé

+ Know what you want to accomplish during the first conversation. Figure out if the person has the right qualifications and shares the same mission before inviting him or her in for a personal interview

+ Have a list of screening questions ready

Chart Note
+

Make sure everyone at the clinic knows you’re recruiting so that anyone who answers the phone can direct the caller to the right person or field general inquiries.

Healthy Move
+

Select a recruitment manager from someone on your staff who can handle the task of coordinating the interview process—from inquiry to hire.
