Dear Friends of the NHSC:

- AMERICAN DIABETES MONTH
Working in tandem with the American College of Cardiology, the American Diabetes Association has set out to increase awareness of the link between diabetes and heart disease for November’s American Diabetes Month. This year’s theme—"Make the Link! Diabetes, Heart Disease and Stroke"—urges people with diabetes to learn how they can lower their chances of heart disease and stroke.

- WINNERS OF THE NHSC AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE
The annual NHSC Awards of Excellence recognize clinics that have dramatically improved health outcomes in their communities by promoting vital community partnerships and health education, preventive care, team building, and enrichment programs. Entries were submitted from across the nation and judged by an independent panel, and the winners were recently announced.

- THIS MONTH IN FRONT LINES
Spokane, Washington, is a long way from the hustle and bustle of New York City, but for NHSC clinician Jennifer Troiano, it’s just what the doctor ordered. After 3 years of working at the Community Health Association of Spokane’s downtown clinic, she has become an important fixture on the clinic’s staff—especially in light of her dual specialty in internal medicine and pediatrics.
