September 2004

Welcome to the September issue of the NHSCurrent. Every month, the NHSCurrent helps keep you up to date and assists you through your NHSC journey.

NHSC Ambassador Program
NHSC Ambassadors are health professions faculty members from schools across the Nation, as well as Area Health Education Centers (AHECs), serving as volunteer Scholar mentors. Ambassadors bring together students, who are focused on primary care, to foster discussion, share resources, and arrange training opportunities. Ambassadors' ties to communities and the NHSC can help students arrange challenging and meaningful community-based training opportunities. These dedicated professionals can make all the difference as you prepare for a health career dedicated to those in need. If you don't know whether there is an NHSC Ambassador on your campus, check out our Web site for listings:

The Rising Tide: Words of Wisdom From the NHSC
Each person is solely responsible for his or her thoughts, feeling, emotions, decisions, actions...everything. Nothing outside yourself makes you happy or sad—it's all within you. You are responsible for whatever future you choose to make happen in your life.

Prose for Practitioners
English: Do you have a refrigerator to keep the medicine cold?
Spanish: ¿Usted tiene un refrigerador para mantener la medicina fría?
French: Avez-vous un réfrigérateur pour maintenir la médecine froide?
German: Haben Sie einen Kühlraum, zum der Medizin kalt zu halten?
Russian: Vy imeete kholodilbnik dlia togo chtooy derzhatb miksturu kholodno?
Chinese: Ni you bing xiang lai leng chang you wu ma?

The NHSCurrent helps shorten the distance between us and you. If you have any questions or comments, please send an email to CYoung1@hrsa.gov.
