Welcome to the May issue of the NHSCurrent. Every month, the NHSCurrent helps keep you up to date and assists you through your NHSC journey.
Cover the Uninsured Week
Taking place May 10-16, Cover the Uninsured Week is designed to raise awareness of the 44 million Americans living without health insurance. A diverse array of groups will sponsor more than 1,000 events in communities across the country. To find out more about what is going on near you, or if you want materials to do your own activity, go to the Web site at:
www.covertheuninsuredweek.org
Contract Extensions
Is your contract going to expire before you graduate? Do you want to extend your contract to cover additional time, and you haven't already received support for 4 full or partial years? Contact your NHSC In School/In Training analyst to get a new contract, sign it, and send it back. If you aren't sure whom to talk to, call us at 1-800-793-1547.
Step IIB of USMLE/COMLEX
If you've already scheduled this test and have paid the registration fees, you may be wondering if the NHSC will reimburse you. During the next ORC cycle in October 2004, the NHSC will add money for current 2nd and 3rd year students (those who, as of July 1, 2004, will be in their 3rd and 4th years) to cover your expenses ($975 + $250 for travel, for a total of $1225). In upcoming years, we will add this to the ORC for 3rd year students unless otherwise stated by the school.
The Rising Tide: Words of Wisdom from the NHSC
Don't stand by the sidelines; engage yourself. Be fully present and appreciate the moment and everyone in it.
