V. SUSPENSION

UNDER WHAT CONDITIONS CAN A SCHOLAR'S SERVICE COMMITMENT BE SUSPENDED?

A scholar can receive a suspension of his/her service commitment, if he/she has a documented personal/medical situation which makes serving temporarily "impossible" or is temporary "extreme hardship." (e.g., if a scholar is unsuccessful in passing the national certification examination by the time the service commitment is scheduled to begin or if a scholar needs maternity/paternity leave).

REMINDER: If the number of work days he/she will be unable to serve will exceed 35 work days during that service year, the scholar should immediately contact the Legal and Compliance Branch, Office of Policy and Planning, to request a suspension at (301) 594-4390 and they will provide instructions on how to proceed.
